There are eight “neighborhoods” packed with amenities that include a 55-foot waterfall, six water slides and more than 40 restaurants, bars and entertainment venues. Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas became the new world’s largest cruise ship when she was delivered to the cruise line in November 2023, at a massive 250,800 gross tons and a length of 1,198 feet. The LNG-powered vessel will also have a guest capacity of 5,610 at double occupancy, which can reach a maximum of 7,600.

This ship will be joined in 2025 by sister-ship MSC World America, set to sail stateside. Aquadome will be located on top of the ship at the front and will double as a lounge with wrap-around views during the day to Royal Caribbean’s marquee AquaTheater at night. This area will include a transforming pool, four robotic arms, state-of-the-art projection, and more. Fans of this ship will also be excited to hear about Royal Caribbean's next Icon ship, already under construction, and planned for a debut in 2025. Burgers, Japanese food, leafy cafés, spots that specialize in desserts, and even a food hall (another Royal Caribbean first) with five different food stands ensure that nobody will feel left out.

Ways Cruise Passengers Get the Crew in Trouble

With progress on Icon of the Seas moving along, Royal Caribbean has already started building another large “icon class” ship. The cruise line expects that unnamed vessel to launch in 2025, per a statement. For instance, Arvia features a unique Skydome area that is a pool area with retractable roof by day and an entertainment venue by night. It also features its own rum distillery onboard, meaning you can take home rum literally made on the ship.

Following Incident, Carnival Says Gambling ‘Strictly Forbidden’ Outside of Casino

Cruise Hive was established back in 2008 and among the earliest blogs in the industry. Since the start, it's been our aim to provide the latest cruise news covering all the major cruise lines. Costa Smeralda is the cruise line’s first-ever cruise ship powered by Liquified Natural Gas (LNG). She’s also the largest vessel ever constructed for the Italian-based cruise operator. The vessel is different from other large ships in the cruise industry and boasts features like the Zipline and the AquaTheater.

Seascape currently sails from Miami, and in 2025 will offer MSC cruises from Galveston for the first time. Until Utopia of the Seas launches in 2024, Sun Princess will be among the twenty largest cruise ships afloat on the world’s oceans. The ship’s first cruise is set for February 2024, and will debut Princess Cruises' largest number of dining options, offering guests 29 choices. MSC World Europa is the second largest cruise ship powered by Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and takes the cruise line into a new era of sustainability, which it’s taking very seriously. The 7th world’s biggest cruise ship features more than 30 different dining venues and a new thrilling 250-foot Drop slide located aft of the ship.

“When you step back and look at all the energy and time that has gone into creating this ship, it is mind-blowing,” he added.

It's a cross between a water park and a traditional land-based resort, but without the overnight accommodations. On CocoCay, passengers will find beach clubs, large swimming pools, a whole network of water slides, a zip line, balloon rides, places to eat, and more. With capacity for nearly 10,000 passengers and crew, Icon of the Seas is billed as part all-inclusive resort, part theme park, and a massive destination unto itself. Clocking in at 250,380 gross tons and measuring nearly a quarter mile long (1,198 feet to be exact), the vast ship will sport a total of 20 decks, 18 of which will be accessible to guests. The ship includes six waterslides, seven swimming pools, an ice skating rink, a theater and more than 40 restaurants, bars and lounges. The ship can carry up to 7,600 passengers at maximum capacity, along with 2,350 crew members.

These are sisterships from the fleet of the second-largest cruise shipping company in the world - RCCL-Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd (as shipowner) that follows only Carnival Corporation (as shipowner). Icon of the Seas is the first in its class and is powered by Liquified Natural Gas (LNG). In 100 days, the largest cruise ship ever built will debut for the first time when Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas departs from Miami for a seven night cruise to the Caribbean. By offering a variety of experiences and atmospheres at the waterpark, it seems to represent a larger goal of the ship. AquaDome, with spaces that blend inside and outside together, will host night events and also serve as a kind of observatory deck; while Central Park brings greenery and flora to the seafaring voyage. At a first glance of the images online, often of the stern of the boat and taken from above, one thing immediately comes to mind — Candy Land.

On the ship, you’ll find 18 decks, 2,748 staterooms and more than 6,800 passengers when completely full. That’s definitely a lot of people, but remember that you also have a lot more space to spread out, giving plenty of elbow room. Wonder of the Seas is the latest edition of Royal Caribbean’s Oasis-class ships (until Utopia of the Seas arrives in 2024), which were the largest class in the world until the new Icon class took the torch. Icon of the Seas will have more than 28 different types of stateroom categories to choose from. This includes new cabins specifically designed for families to the cruise line’s first ever infinite balcony cabins.

Carnival's Celebration, which launched in November 2022, is a sister ship to the famed Mardi Gras and a "celebration" for the cruise line's 50th birthday year. The Celebration cruise ship, which is fueled by cleaner burning LNG, has 20 decks and 2,687 staterooms and suites. Coming in at almost 216,000 gross tons, it’s roughly 14% smaller than Icon of the Seas. From bumper cars to seven pools to an 11-story slide, there’s no shortage of things for kids to do. Adults will love the 13 different dining options and an indoor promenade or Panorama Lounge for shopping, having a drink, or just relaxing.

The eight distinct neighborhoods offer passengers a variety of themes and experiences. Guests will also have over 30 different dining venues and bars to choose from, serviced by 2,300 crew members. MSC Virtuosa, which is another member of the Meraviglia-Plus class, first set sail in May 2021. It is easily one of the largest in MSC's fleet (along with sister ship Grandiosa), having 2,421 cabins on 15 passenger-accessible decks (18 decks total).
